This department has been vested with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the health care system in W.B. Public health, sanitation and hospitals are the exclusive responsibilities of the State.

Superintendents of the State General Hospitals have been facing immense difficulties in discharging functions related to HMIS (Hospital Management Information System) consequent upon withdrawal of outsourced support personnel deployed in their Institutions.
In such cases the overdrawal for the period from 01-01-2008 to 31-03-2008 shall be recovered with reference to unrevised pay drawn prior to 01-04-2008 as in the said period pay under W.B.S. (ROPA) Rules, 2009 is notional.
