Recruitment Notification
(Pertaining to Recruitment of Assistant Teachers in Primary Schools)
The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (hereinafter Board) invites applications from the eligible candidates for recruitment of Assistant Teachers in Govt. Aided/ Govt. Sponsored Primary/ Junior Basic Schools in the State in accordance with the provisions of “West Bengal Primary School Teachers Recruitment Rules, 2016” (amended upto date) to 13421 vacant posts of Assistant Teachers sanctioned by the Government of West Bengal in the School Education Department.
1) Name of the Post: Assistant Teacher in Primary Schools.
2) Scale of Pay: As per extant rules of the Government of West Bengal in this regard.
3) Qualifications requirement:
(a) The candidate must be a citizen of India.
(b) The candidate must have passed:
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
Graduation and Two Year Diploma in Elementary Education
AND
Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) (conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education adhering to the rules and principles set by NCTE)
Note: Candidates belonging to reserved categories viz. candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC-A and OBC-B), Exempted Categories (EC), Ex-Servicemen and Person with Disabilities (PwD), shall be allowed to get relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks as per Note 6 of Rule 6 in West Bengal Primary School Teachers Recruitment Rules, 2016 (amended upto date).
(c) Medium of Instruction:
A candidate seeking appointment to the post of Assistant Teacher in any Primary School shall have studied and passed in the specific language as the first or second language subject at the Higher Secondary or equivalent academic level for which medium of instruction the candidate seeks for appointment.
Further, in case of Santhali as the medium of instruction, the candidate shall only be required to possess proficiency of reading, writing and speaking in Sandiali. Here, Santhali means Santhali in Ol-Chiki Script. It shall not be obligatory for the candidates seeking appointment to the post of Assistant Teacher in Santhali medium primary schools to have passed in the Santhali as first or second language subject at the Higher Secondary or its equivalent academic level.
4) Age requirement: Minimum Eighteen (18) years and maximum Forty (40) years as on the 1st day of January, 2025. Upper age limit is relaxable for the candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (A & B), PwD (Person with Disabilities), Exempted (EC), Ex-Servicemen (ExS) and Para Teacher (PT) categories.
5) Selection Parameters:
Selection of Assistant Teachers shall be made on the basis of aggregated marks obtained in the following items of evaluation out of maximum marks of 50:

6) Preference for DPSC/PSC:
A candidate is required to give a preference of District Primary School Council (DPSC)/ Primary School Council (PSC) under jurisdiction of which he/she is to be posted, if selected (subject to availability of appropriate medium wise and category wise vacancies).
7) Application Fee:
A candidate is required to pay the requisite fee as mentioned below (non-refundable) to obtain and submit filled in Application Form through online mode:
(i) For General Category Candidate : INR 600/- (₹ 600)
(ii) For OBC (A and B) Candidate : INR 500/- (₹ 500)
(iii) For SC/ST/EWS/PwD Candidate : INR 300/- (₹ 300)
8) Quota for Reservation:
The quota for reservation in the recruitment will be applicable in accordance with the extant reservation norms of the Government of West Bengal.
9) Application Modalities:
The schedule for opening application portal and submitting the filled in application form through online mode will be notified later.
