International Mother Language Day, observed on February 21, promotes linguistic and cultural diversity. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving mother languages and promoting multilingualism, fostering understanding and respect for different languages worldwide.
The Govt. of West Bengal decided to celebrate International Mother Language Day on 21st of February, 2012. In 1952, on 21st February, four students of Bangaldesh were killed for campaigning the use of Bengali as official language.
