Singur

Singur is a town in West Bengal, India, known for the land acquisition controversy related to the Tata Nano car project. In 2006, land was acquired for the factory, but protests led by farmers and political parties resulted in its cancellation. The land was later returned to farmers by a Supreme Court order in 2016.

issued to the Vendors as recommended by Tata Motors Limited in view of non-commissioning and abandoning Small Car Project and ancillary factories with a view to returning such portion of the land to the unwilling owners thereof, who have not accepted compensation and to utilize the balance portion in public interest and for the benefit of the State.
