will the asstt teachers of H.S schools attend the school during this period?

It is not mandatory for the teachers to attend the school. The Headmaster shall ensure that the admission process is not hampered. Even if some teachers show up to carry on the admission procedure in a smooth manner they will not be able to put in their signatures on the attendance copy for as per order the school shall remain effectively closed. At max they can claim compensatory leave for attending the class for the said period.

Given the fact that twenty odd days are likely to be curtailed from this year’s academic calender (provided the state govt. decides to consider them as additional holidays over and above the stipulated 65 days), it is a legitimate concern for all those associated with the teaching-learning process in schools of West Bengal as to the adverse effect that it may have on the students. However, it has to be borne in mind that there are several reputed schools in West Bengal, especially belonging to the ICSE and CBSE boards, who enjoy both Saturdays and Sundays as holidays. As such they enjoy 52 more holidays than ours and despite that they come up with excellent academic performance year after year. So the mere count of academic days, though important in itself, is not and can never be the sole decisive factor as far as academic excellence is concerned. We must trust the dynamism and sincerity of our teachers and students taken as a whole in that they shall surely make up for the loss of these days by their dedicated service and untiring efforts. Last but not the least, the State Govt. shall be more than justified in their action if they grant these 20 odd days as additional holidays in view of the very unnatural and almost fatal atmospheric conditions that we have experienced in the last two months or so. In fact the Govt. must be congratulated for their timely action in preventing a number of unfortunate casualties of both the students and the teachers. However, if someone suffers from severe heartburn given the prospect of the teachers getting a few days of additional holidays, it is a completely different matter.
