An MBBS is allotted a govt. quarter & there is no mention of HRA in his pay slip..Now his wife joins a govt-aided school & the HM says that she will not be availed of HRA..Is the HM is right ? what will the lady teacher write about his husband’s HRA in the annual statement as there is no mention of HRA in his payslip ? Thanks in anticipation.

The wife is elligible to draw full HRA (of course, it must not exceed Rs. 6000).
Here is a circular which you may find handy.

HM is right. Husband is allotted Govt. quarter in lieu of HRA and, wife is supposed to share that govt. accommodation with husband. She is not eligible to draw HRA. Husband’s HRA = NIL
in this case recently govt change decision that the limit reduced to 150km where it may be stated that both husband and wife can accommodate same govt quarter from where they can join their duty in regular basis. However this type of condition is only for wb state govt employees where the incumbent suffers both in terms of amount (6000/- limit) and complication. the stated GO may be uploaded by anyone as presently i have not the same. this change happens due to some legal cases where govt fails. but till date the related GO has not been published in Finance website but i confirm from this site that since last year the change has been taken place. So in this case the place of posting is very important to judge whether the spouse will get the HRA or not.
