I was approached by a police officer during some professional chat who stated that though Kolkata Police Hospital is a 300 bedded hospital sprang on 225 Cotthas of lands and is meant for West Bengal Police, Kolkata Police, WB Fire Service personnel, Home Guards,BSF, CISF and CRPF personnel who are in several lacs in numbers and the hospital has Medical,Orthopedic, Surgical, Physical Medicines, Pathological, Radiological, Eyes, Gynae and Dental faculties, it is not recognised for OPD treatment by the Government under WBHS 2008. If the said hospital is recognised by the government for treatment as OPD patients even for the willing police personnel, then a substantial amount of government revenue will be saved on consultation fee of the specialist who are visited by the police personnel of Kolkata and its suburbs in 5 star hospitals. If the doctors of Police Hospital recommend for their admission at any specialist hospital then they can easily avail of the facility of admission. But spending a substantial sum of money as consultancy amount in 5 star hospitals to be reimbursed by the Government of West Bengal does not appear to be appropriate when the State is fighting serious battle with the financial crisis. What are the procedures which have to be followed for bringing the said hospital under the ambit of WBHS for the treatment of willing police personal as OPD patients? Who should be approached for the enlistment of the police hospital for OPD treatment? Please advise so that I may move on behalf of one of my friends who works in Police Department .
