Update: Insurance Policy For Persons Deployed For COVID-19 Related Duties

Employees of various Departments and Organisations/ Agencies of Government of West Bengal and Government of India are working day and night to control the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19). It has been decided by the State Government to provide insurance to all those employees/ persons engaged/ deployed in the containment and management of COVID 19 in this extraordinary public health situation.
In view of above, the Governor is pleased to provide coverage up to Rs 5 lakh for treatment related to COVID-19 and additional Rs 5 lakh as death benefit where illness and/or death occurs due to COVID-19 to all employees/ persons deployed in the containment and management of COVID 19 in the State of West Bengal.
Total 10 lakh personnel of the following categories will be covered under the Policy:
a. All employees permanent, contractual or part time of Health & Family Welfare Department.
b. Employees permanent, contractual or part time of Urban and Local bodies including conservancy staff under Municipal and Urban Development Department/ Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
c. State Police personnel – permanent, contractual or part time deployed for COVID19 related duties.
d. Personnel of Central Police Forces and Defense Forces, Airport Staff and Employees, Employees of the Various Ports, Employees of Railways deployed for COVID-19 related duties in West Bengal.
e. Drivers, conductors and other employees deployed for road and river public transport in the State.
f. Any other employee of Government of West Bengal and Government of India- permanent, contractual, part time engaged for containment of COVID-19 in West Bengal as may be determined by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal.
The admissibility of claims under this policy as well as the processing of claims shall be dealt by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal.
The “Swasthya Sathi Cell” of this Department shall be the nodal department for management and processing of claims under this Policy.
The policy is effective from 16.3.2020 to 15.4.2020 (both days inclusive).
