Introduction of Semester System in Higher Secondary Level

ORDER

Whereas, the State Government has notified the State Education Policy, 2023 vide No. 907-Edu(U)/HED- 12016(99)/15/2023-UNV SEC-Dept. of HE dated 05.09.2023 which has emphasized the need to introduce semester system in a phased manner to reduce the burden on the students.

And Whereas the President, WBCHSE has submitted a proposal for introduction of semester in class XI from the academic year 2024-2025 onwards (1st semester November 2024 and 2nd semester march 2025) and in class XII (HS) from academic year 2025-2026 on wards (1st semester November 2025 & 2nd semester March 2026).

And Whereas the proposal submitted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education needs to be examined in the context of the State Education Policy and also keeping in mind the method proposed/ to be followed in other Boards across the country.

The competent authority in School Education Department has decided to constitute a committee consisting of following members to develop an implementation framework along with suggested timeline.

1. Commissioner of school Education
2. President, West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
3. Smt. Chinmoyee Pattanayak, Joint Director of School Education, Member Convener
4. Swamim Isthishananda, Head master, Narendrapur ramkrishna mission High School, a member of West Bengal Council of Higher Education

The committee shall examine the proposal, consider the prevailing practices on the subject and/ or decisions taken for next academic sessions keeping over all vision/ recommendation stated in the State Education Policy, 2023.

The Committee shall submit its report by the end of November, 2023.
