Domicile Certificate
Domicile Certificate is an official document issued by the government that verifies an individual’s permanent residence in a specific state or region. It is often required for various purposes, such as admission to educational institutions, job applications, or availing state-specific benefits.
To be eligible for a domicile certificate in West Bengal as of 2025, an applicant must meet one of the following conditions:
No elected representative like Municipal Commissioner, Councilor of Municipal Corporation, any elected member of three-tire Panchayat System or GTA, MLA or MP is entitled to issue Residential/ Domicile Certificate.
The District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate (Gen.), Sub-Divisional Officer are designated by the Home & Hill Affairs Department to issue Permanent Residence Certificate in the State.
For Kolkata, stipulated time limit for rendering the services, the Designated Officers responsible for providing the services, the Appellate Officers and the Reviewing Officers responsible for ensuring delivery of services will be as follows:-
District Magistrates have been authorised to issue domicile/ permanent residential certificate for the purpose of appointment under Defence and other Para-military Forces.
