Road Safety
Road Safety refers to measures, practices, and regulations aimed at preventing accidents, injuries, and fatalities on roads. It includes enforcing traffic laws, promoting safe driving behaviors, improving infrastructure, and educating the public about road safety rules.
Governor is pleased to issue the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in connection with disqualification of a person from holding a driving license or revoke such license in terms of provisions of Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic) of all the Police Commissionerates and Superintendents of Police empowered to disqualify offending drivers from holding any driving licence.
A bystander or good Samaritan including an eyewitness of a road accident may take an injured person to the nearest hospital, and the bystander or good Samaritan should be allowed to leave immediately.
Governor is pleased to constitute the District Road Safety Committee for Kolkata covering the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
