Bike-Taxi Service in NKDA, NITA and Salt Lake area

NOTIFICATION

Whereas, operation of ‘bike-taxi’ was introduced in this State vide 2979-WT/TR/3M-92/2009 dated 22/08/2016 (hereinafter referred to as the said notification);

And, Whereas, such operation was limited to areas under NKDA only;

And, Whereas, proposal for extension of such services to the areas of Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority has been received from that authority by the State Government;

And, Whereas, further communications for extension of such operation to Bidhannagar has also been received by this Department;

Now, after careful consideration, the Governor is pleased to direct for amendment of the said notification in the manner as detailed below:

Sub-clause (b) of Clause 2 of the said notification is substituted by the following sub-clause:

Operational area shall be limited for the time being; to areas under New Kolkata Development Authority (hereinafter referred to as NKDA), Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (hereinafter referred to as NDITA) and the Sectors I to IV of Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) Township. Transport Department, may, however consider further extension of operation of bike-taxis in such other new areas, as may be felt necessary from time to time, to augment the existing modes of public transportation in such new areas.

Provided that, dropping off passengers outside the operational area, as defined above, is allowed subject to the picking up of the passenger within such operational area only and for a maximum distance of five kms in the areas outside NKDA, NDITA and the Sectors I to IV of Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) Township.”

Concerned RTA will make necessary endorsement in the existing permits in accordance with the above.

This will come into immediate effect.
