Food & Supplies Directorate is mainly responsible for availability and distribution of foodgrains and other essential commodities to the valid ration Card holders.
Governor is of opinion that it is necessary and expedient to provide necessary provisions for procurement and maintaining supplies of rice and for securing its equitable distribution and availability at fair prices to agencies of the State Government by the Custom Milled Rice agency.
In case of lifting of food grains from a Fair Price Shop dealer, the ration card holder shall have the option to lift the allocated quota of foodgrains, a) for current week; or b) following weeks
Godown within the radius of 20 kilometer of the vacancy area may also be accepted subject to the condition that the prospective wholesaler, shall give an undertaking that he shall not claim transport rebate for more than 8 kilometer.
Scheduled time for capturing ration card data at Fair Price Shop level has been extended for the 11 districts viz. Kolkata, North 24 Parganas (excepting municipal areas), Howrah, Hooghly, Purba Medinipur, Purulia, Birbhum, Bankura, Burdwan, Dakshin Dinajpur and Coochbehar.
One major step to reform the prevailing TPDS system is to digitize the information of the Ration Card holders so that a complete Digitized Ration card database of the ration card holders may be constructed and made available online.
Social audit on the functioning of Fair Price Shops, Public Distribution System and other welfare schemes shall be conducted under section 28 of the Act.
The size of the godown should be minimum 400 sq. ft. along with a covered space of 2.00 sq. ft. adjacent to the godown to be used for office purpose and for FPS automation.
All applications shall be received only at the Block Food Inspector’s Office in case of rural areas, at Municipal Food Inspector’s Office in non-SR Municipal areas, at RO’s Office in case of SR areas and in the Office of the Deputy Manager of Borough Offices in case of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
