Extension of benefit of family pension in favour of unmarried/ divorced/ widowed daughter beyond the age of 25 years of a deceased employee (teaching and non-teaching) of Government aided Colleges has been under active consideration.

NOTIFICATION
WHEREAS the extension of benefit of family pension in favour of unmarried/ divorced/ widowed daughter beyond the age of 25 years of a deceased employee (teaching and non-teaching) of Government aided Colleges has been under active consideration of the Government for some time past;
AND WHEREAS in terms of Para 5(p)(2)(iv) of The West Bengal Non-Government College Teachers’ (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme issued Vide No- 1097-Edn(CS) dated 31.05.1978 applicable for Teaching staff of Govt.-aided Colleges and in terms of para 5(q)(2)(iv) of the West Bengal Non-Government College Employees and Day Students’ Home Employees (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme issued vide No- 1955-Edn(CS) dated 23.12.1981 applicable for Non-Teaching staff of Government aided colleges, unmarried/ divorced/ widowed daughters are not included in the definition of “family” for the purpose of family pension;
AND WHEREAS para 52 of The West Bengal Non-Government College Teachers’ (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme and Para 48 of the West Bengal Non-Government College Employees and Day Studentsโ Home Employees (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme also provide that in respect of matters for which provision has not been made in those Schemes, the relevant provisions of the West Bengal Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1971 shall apply mutatis mutandis subject to the approval of State Government;
AND WHEREAS the benefit of family pension has been extended in favour of unmarried/ divorced/ widowed daughter beyond the age of 25 years of a deceased Government employee under West Bengal Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1971.
NOW THEREFORE, the Governor has been pleased to extend the benefit of family pension to the unmarried/ divorced/ widowed daughter beyond the age of 25 years of a deceased employee (teaching and non-teaching) of Government aided Colleges falling under the purview of the West Bengal Non-Government College Teachers’ (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme issued Vide No- 1097-Edn(CS) dated 31.05.1978 and the West Bengal Non-Government College Employees and Day Students’ Home Employees (Death Cum Retirement Benefit) Scheme issued vide No- 1955-Edn (CS) dated 23.12.1981.
This is issued with the approval of competent authority of this Department and with the concurrence of Finance Department vide their U.O. No.- Pension/2023-2024/0333 dated 19.01.2024.
This Notification shall take immediate effect.
