Sub: List of maximum number of holidays to be observed in the academic session-2026 (01 January, 2026 to 31 December, 2026)

In exercise of the power conferred by clause (e) of sub-section (2) of section 20 of West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education Act, 1994 and as per decision of the meeting of the Board held on 17.11.2017 and as directed, the Heads of all recognized Madrasahs are being instructed to follow the List of holidays – 2026 (specimen list of holidays) attached herewith. It is to be noted that the maximum numbers of holidays to be observed for this academic session will be limited to 65 days.

This order shall have to be strictly followed. In case, any festival is affected due to lunar cause, the holiday(s) on account of the said festival would be so adjusted.

N.B.: 1. This Holiday List shall be treated as model holiday List for the Academic Year – 2026. The adjustment in Holiday(s) is permissible as per local need for festival and for any natural disaster subject to approval of the M.C. / Administrator as the case may be. I he total number of Holidays in the Academic Year would be fixed at 65 days. The Madrasah authority is not allowed to exclude National and State holiday from the total number of holidays (i.e 65 days).

2. The Madrasah authority is not allowed to increase or decrease the total no. of holiday s in this academic year, which is fixed to 65 days without the written permission of the Board. Any excess holiday (s) beyond sixty five days in this academic year, enjoyed by the Madrasah will be treated as unauthorized leave.

3. For hilly areas of Darjeeling, the Madrasah authority may adjust the vacation as per local environment keeping total number of holidays fixed at 65 days.

4. If there is any change in the date of Shab-E-Miraj, Shab-E-Barat, Honour of 1st Ramjan, Layla-Tul-Qadr, Eid-Ul-Fitr, Eid-UI-Azha, Hijri New Year, Muharram, Fateha-Dwaz-Daham, Fateha-Yaz-Daham will be adjusted following the declaration of the State Government in this regard.

5. The Madrasah authority shall make necessary arrangement to observe the following Days:

(i) Birthday of Netaji – Friday, 23 January, 2026
(ii) Republic day – Monday, 26 January, 2026
(iii) Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore – Saturday, 09 May, 2026
(iv) Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam – Tuesday, 26 May, 2026
(v) Independence day – Saturday, 15 August. 2026
(vi) Fateha Dwaz Daham – Wednesday, 26 August, 2026
(vi) Teacher’s day – Saturday, 05 September, 2026
(viii) Birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (National Education Day) – Wednesday, 11 November, 2026
(ix) Birthday of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain – Wednesday, 09 December, 2026

6. * The Birthday of poet Bhanu Bhakt (13.07.2026, Monday) will be observed as holiday for the Districts of Darjeeling & Kalimpong only.

The Board reserves the right to change the Holiday List if required.
