ORDER
WHEREAS the Public Vehicles Department at Kolkata having its office at 38, Beltala Road, Kolkata-700 020 under the administrative control of the Transport Department, Government of West Bengal is assigned to function as the central office in the city of Kolkata for the purpose of carrying out all the functions and catering to the services to the people in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Rules made thereunder (as amended from time to time), West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1979 and West Bengal Additional Tax and One-Time Tax on Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, for the city of Kolkata (as defined in Rule 2(b) of the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989);
AND, whereas, it has been decided by the State Government in terms of the decision of the Cabinet in its meeting dated 14.09.2011 to open 3 (three) more Public Vehicles Department Offices/ Units in the city of Kolkata for strengthening its delivery mechanism as well as to ensure faster and better delivery of services to the people;
AND, whereas, the Transport Department has in the meanwhile notified the opening of two new Offices/ Units of the Public Vehicles Department – one at Kasba and the other at Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) – vide Notification Nos. 3840-WT/TR/0/1E(C)-94/2011 dated 12.12.2011 and 2757-WT/3M-51/2010 dated 23.07.2013 respectively in compliance with the Cabinet decision as aforementioned;
AND, whereas, it is necessary to open another Office/ Unit of the Public Vehicles Department towards full compliance of the decision as aforesaid;
AND, whereas, it has been decided to open the said Office/ Unit of the Public Vehicles Department at Behala;
NOW, therefore, the Governor is hereby pleased to sanction and accord approval to the opening of a new Office/ Unit of the Public Vehicles Department as per details shown in the schedule below in public interest.

The Governor is further pleased to direct that the new Office/ Unit of the Public Vehicles Department as specified in the schedule above shall be under the overall control and supervision of the Director of the Public Vehicles Department.
The Governor is further pleased to decide that the required details including the jurisdiction of the new Office/ Unit at Behala as well as the date of effect of this Notification shall be notified separately.
