NOTIFICATION

Whereas the State of West Bengal proposes to incorporate its own Official State Emblem, in addition to the State Emblem of India, for the purpose of display on public buildings, display on public vehicles, and in such other places as specified in the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005 and Rules made thereunder.

And whereas the State Government had referred the proposed Official State Emblem to the Central Government, vide its No. 101-CS/2017 dated 31-5-17, for prior approval of the Central Government as required under sub-rule (2) of rule 4 of the State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules, 2007.

And whereas the Central Government in the Ministry of Home Affairs vide No. 13/10/2017-Public dated 22-12-17 has accorded approval for adoption of the said emblem as the Official Emblem for the State of West Bengal.

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (2) of rule 4 of the State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules, 2007 and after obtaining prior approval of the Central Government in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Governor is pleased hereby to notify, with immediate effect, that the Official Emblem for the State of West Bengal shall be the emblem as specified in the Schedule.

The emblem for the State of West Bengal, so notified, shall be used subject to the restrictions specified in the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005 and rules made thereunder.

THE SCHEDULE OFFICIAL EMBLEM FOR THE STATE OF WEST BENGAL

Description and Design

The Official Emblem of West Bengal shall contain the State Emblem of India on the top. Below the State Emblem of India, there shall be a circular design with the Bengali alphabet superimposed on the atlas. The map of the State of West Bengal shall be highlighted within the alphabet The name of the State Government, in both Bengali and English shall be inscribed at the top and the bottom respectively of the atlas, in circular alignment.

The Official Emblem for the State of West Bengal shall conform to the designs as set out in the Appendix.
