MEMORANDUM
The question of revision of pay scales of Welfare Officer under the Department of Jails has been under active consideration of the Government for some time past.
2. After careful examination of the matter, and in consideration of the duties and responsibilities of the post, the Governor has been pleased to revise the pay scale of Welfare Officer under the Deptt. of Jails as stated below:-

3. This order would take effect from 01.01.1996 notionally with actual benefit from 01.01.2008.
4. The Officers holding the said post may exercise fresh option under W.B.S. (ROPA) Rules, 1998 within 30 days from the date of issue of this order.
5. The rules of initial pay fixation in the revised pay scale and all conditions as laid down in the W.B.S. (ROPA) Rules, 1998 excepting the date of actual effect shall apply mutatis-mutandis.
6. The said revised scale would be revised as PB-4 (9000-40,500/-) with Grade Pay of Rs. 4,400/-under W.B.S. (ROPA) Rules, 2009.
7. The officer holding said post may exercise option to come under W.B.S. (ROPA) Rules, 2009 within 60 days from the date of issue of this order.
8. The Accountant General (A&E) West Bengal and the PAG (Audit) West Bengal are being informed accordingly.
