SWAMI VIVEKANANDA WEST BENGAL GOVT. MERIT-CUM-MEANS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME, 2014
Applications are being invited for awarding scholarship for the year 2014 under “Swami Vivekananda West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme” for providing financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students of West Bengal pursuing higher studies. The students of Post-Madhyamik levels in regular courses who are domiciled in West Bengal and studying in one of the educational institutions of this state after passing out from the State Board/ Council of Secondary/ Higher Secondary Education and Madrasah Siksha Parishad or a University of West Bengal set up by State Act, whose annual family income is Rs. 80,000/- or less may apply for this scholarship provided their educational qualifications are as follows:-
For Scholarships at Higher Secondary level (@ Rs. 500/- p.m.)
At least 75% in aggregate in Madhyamik Pariksha or its equivalent as stated above excluding optional elective subject. Students who are enrolled in Class XI on passing Madhyamik Pariksha or its equivalent examination in 2014 will be eligible to apply.
For the Under Graduate level scholarships (@ Rs. 750/- to Rs. 1500/- p.m.)
Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks, consisting of two language subjects and three best elective subjects. Students who are enrolled in the first year of Under Graduate Course after passing the H.S. Examination or its equivalent examination in 2014 will be eligible to apply.
For Scholarships at Diploma (Polytechnic) level (@ 750/- p.m.)
Students who are enrolled after passing-out in Secondary (M.P.) Examination or its equivalent as stated above in 2014 for first year Diploma (Polytechnic) course [H.S. Examination or its equivalent for Diploma in Pharmacy or Modern Office Practice & Management of 2 year duration] and after passing-out in “West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education & Training’ courses, which is equivalent to H.S. Examination for 2nd year Diploma (Polytechnic) courses on lateral entry basis, will be eligible to apply. Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks in aggregate [excluding the marks secured in the optional elective subject, if any].
For the Post Graduate level scholarships (@ Rs. 1200/- to 1400/-)
At least 55% marks in Honours subjects at the Graduation level. Students who are enrolled in the first year class of Post Graduate Course in general education after passing Graduation with Honours in 2014 will be eligible to apply.
Different categories of applicants will submit their applications to the different offices as mentioned hereunder either in online or offline mode:
i) Class-XI students: Commissioner of School Education, West Bengal, (Training & Examination Cell), Bikash Bhavan, 7th floor, Salt Lake, Kolkata — 700091. ii) The 1st year students of UG and PG Courses in general education (Arts, Commerce and Science) and other professional courses approved by UGC, excluding Engineering & Medical —Directorate of Public Instruction, West Bengal, Scholarship & Stipend Section, Bikash Bhavan, 9th floor, North Wing, Salt Lake, Kolkata—700091. iii) The students pursuing 1st year or 2nd year Polytechnic Diploma course after passing Madhyamik Pariksha/ Higher Secondary or its equivalent examination — Directorate of Technical Education & Training, West Bengal, Vocational Training Institute, Plot: B/7, Action Area III, New Town, Kolkata-700156. iv) The 1st year UG and PG courses (Engineering & Technology) and other professional Engineering courses of equivalent stature approved by AICTE — Directorate of Technical Education, West Bengal, Bikash Bhavan, 10th floor, East Wing (South), Salt Lake, Kolkata — 700091. v) The 1st year UG (Medical) courses like MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS and UG Nursing — Directorate of Medical Education, West Bengal, ‘Swasthya Bhavan’, GN Block, Sector — V, Salt Lake, Kolkata — 700091.

Users can also click the ‘eServices’ link in www.banglarmukh.gov.in or www.wb.gov.in and reach the online application service page.
Applications should preferably be made online through the above mentioned websites followed by sending the filled up application generated from the website along with requisite enclosures (e.g. certificates, declaration etc.) to the offices mentioned above within the due date. Offline applicants will submit the Applications hand written/typed or downloadable from the abovementioned websites, along with requisite enclosures (e.g. certificates, declaration etc.) in envelopes to the offices mentioned above, within the due date. The words, “Application for Swami Vivekananda West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme for pursuing……………
* Course of studies” is to be clearly written on the envelope. But both the online and offline applicants should paste the bar code printed on the downloaded form on the envelope that is to be submitted to the offices mentioned above.

[For Example: For application to DPI, Education Directorate, please write (ED) after Application for Swami Vivekananda West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme. Similarly for Directorate of Technical Education one should write (DTE), for Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTE&T) and for School Education (SE).]
Duly completed applications along with requisite enclosures and a recent passport-si2e and signed photograph properly affixed on the application form must reach/ be submitted to the Government Offices mentioned above by the 31st December, 2014. It may be noted here that only duly filled in and completed applications will be considered for awarding Scholarships. Level-wise number of awardees will be selected considering both merit and means of the applicants from the valid applications received within the last date of receiving applications. Applications received after the last date of submission will be summarily rejected without showing any reason.
N.B. 1. Candidates opting for these scholarships and found eligible, will not be allowed to enjoy any other Government (Central/ State) scholarship or stipend for the same course/ stage of study. However, one time grant or assistance received from any source, or free or partly free-studentship allowed by the host institutions will not debar the students from availing of the benefits of the scheme. In case of suppression of fact of getting double scholarships from the Government Authorities for the same course of study, the scholarships if granted shall be cancelled automatically and the scholarships payee shall be asked to refund the amount at once.
2. For renewal of scholarship, application with “Continuity Certificate” from the head of the educational institution must be submitted to the concerned scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of his/ her admission in the next higher class due to promotion by passing in the first attempt. (In case of Semester mode – Both Semester-I and Semester — II Examination to be cleared in the first attempt to claim the renewal of scholarship). Renewal cases will be sanctioned subject to good academic performance (minimum 60% marks should be obtained from Higher Secondary level to under graduate level and 50% marks in the post graduate level).
3. As the payments will be made through ECS only, furnishing of Bank details i.e. A/C No., Bank Name, IFS Code and MICR Code of any nationalised Bank preferably the State Bank of India, is mandatory.
4. For this year, the scholarship application for the Medical Education will ONLY be in offline mode.
