Office Memo. No.-197(40)ES/0/PLNG/11M-4/2010 (PT-II) dated 20.03.2014.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (L.P.G.) is considered to be safe, economic, time-saving and smoke-free fuel for cooking Mid-day Meal in school. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Govt. of India insists on use of LPG under Cooked Mid-day Meal Programme (CMDMP). Several times we have discussed the benefit of the use of LPG for cooking Mid-day Meal. But, the ground reality speaks otherwise. As per the survey of State Project Director, CMDMP, Govt. of W.B. Office, only 6.8% schools have now been using LPG for cooking Mid-day-Meal.

It is, therefore, requested again that necessary steps may kindly be taken at his/her end to ensure the preparation of MDM by using LPG cylinder in his/her own school. In this connection, it is also mentioned that Safety measures should be taken by the concerned school authorities as per guideline of West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services (Memo No.-WBFES/6836/11 dated 13.01.2011) before introduction of CMDMP. A copy of the above Safety guideline and important information on LPG authorities of West Bengal are attached herewith for ready reference. Any problem, if faced in the process of getting LPG connection for preparation of CMDM in his/her School, may be brought to the notice of the office of the undersigned.

Enclo: As stated above.
