This department has been vested with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the health care system in W.B. Public health, sanitation and hospitals are the exclusive responsibilities of the State.

Clarification regarding HRA to GDMOs under NRHM

GDMOs and Specialists engaged under NRHM may stay in quarters of health department, if available, and no charges may be deducted from them in the interest of public services, till they are engaged on contract.

Duty Hours of Medical Officers, Staffs providing Patient Care Service

Governor is pleased to authorize the Superintendent of the different hospitals to adjust the hours of duty of Medical Officers of their institutions on specified days in the week or by rotation to run the indoor and other services on Sundays/notified holidays. On such holidays the indoor, emergency and other services will be provided through local arrangements in consultation with medical officers/specialists and other staff.

All shops, commercial establishments, offices and factories, workshops, godowns etc shall close their operations. People are required to stay at home and come out only for basic services while strictly following social distancing guidelines issued earlier.

Doctors must work in West Bengal after Post Graduation

Doctors after completing their Postgraduate and Post-Doctoral Education in State Medical Teaching Institutions in West Bengal, will work in Multi-Specialty/ Super-Specialty Hospitals, Secondary & Tertiary level Hospitals in West Bengal for a period of one year to serve the rural people.
