This department has been vested with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the health care system in W.B. Public health, sanitation and hospitals are the exclusive responsibilities of the State.
The State Government has been considering a new promotion policy for the officers belonging to West Bengal Public Health & Administrative Service (WBPH&AS) to ensure better Cadre management and better delivery of health care services.
No clinical establishment shall engage or empanel any person already engaged by the Government of West Bengal, or allow such person to render any healthcare service who is yet to obtain an express permission in the form of a ‘No objection certificate’ from the Government.
The Hospital Level Fire Safety Committee will consist of one representative from H&FW Deptt., one engineer each from Civil & Electrical Wing of PWD and one representative from Fire & Emergency Services Deptt.

Action may be taken against hospital/ clinic for refusal to treat victims of acid attacks in contravention of the provisions of Section 357C of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
Governor has been pleased to engage 64 retired Ward Master at a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 14,000/- p.m. for a period 6 (six) months in the different Government hospital.
