Name of the Department: Transport Department
Notification: Resolution No. 364-Emp dated 18.08.2014 of Labour Department, Government of West Bengal.
Purpose of the project: To encourage unemployed youths to take up transport as the means of livelihood, Government of West Bengal launched this project. Under this project loans in easy terms to buy cars/ trucks/ lorries etc. are made available either through Regional Transport Officer or through bank. With the help of the Transport Department ‘Permit’ will be issued on priority basis. Physically differently able youths are also eligible for this project. West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation is the active agent of this project. In case of Commercial cars the State Government shall provide 30% of the price of car or Rs 1 Lakh maximum as subsidy. Apart from this all Nationalised Banks, Rural Banks, Cooperative Banks and few enlisted Non Banking Finance Corporations shall provide finance to purchase cars under ‘Gatidhara’ project. Now ‘Gatidhara’ is a very popular project among unemployed youths of the state. The person who gets a job loses the right to grant. Young citizens belonging to the age of 18 to 45, who registered their names at employment exchanges and passed Class VIII, but are yet to get any suitable placement will get an amount of Rs. 1500/- per month as allowance under Yuvasree scheme from the state government. Only one person from a family will get this allowance. The tagline of this scheme is ‘Break desperation, Build Life’. Till now almost 2.2 lakh young citizens have been enrolled under this scheme.
Who can apply: The applicant should belong to the age of 20 to 45, be registered with their names at employment bank and the monthly income of the family of applicant should be below Rs. 25,000 per month. Scheduled Castes, Tribes and OBC applicants will get a relaxation in age upto 5 years and 3 years respectively. Beneficiaries of the Yuvashree scheme may also apply. But beneficiaries of Gatidhara will loses the right to grant under Yuvashree. To ensure that all marginal people will get the benefit of Gatidhara, recommendation of the representative of local people must accompany the application.
