Backward Classes Welfare (Anagrasar Kalyan) Department works for social, economic and cultural development of the people belonging to SC, ST, OBC in West Bengal.
Updated List of Scheduled Castes (specific group of communities recognized by the Indian government as historically disadvantaged and eligible for affirmative action programs) in West Bengal as per the Constitution (Scheduled Casts) Order Act.
Government has decided to categorise the backward classes into two categories depending on their relative backwardness and make separate provisions for reservation in services and posts
Issuing authority may issue fresh OBC certificates on surrender of the Original by the holders of Old Certificates for revalidation mentioning Category-A or Category-B till 31st December, 2014.
There is no Act regulating identification of persons belonging to Other Backward Classes. Guidelines for issuance of Other Backward Classes Certificates were issued earlier.
Caste Identification Certificate issued to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe person is popularly called as Caste Certificate. A format of Caste Certificate is appended to these guidelines.
Updated List of Scheduled Tribes in West Bengal. Efforts are being made to improve their socio-economic conditions through various welfare programs and initiatives.
